Beef Stroganoff is one of my all time favourite meals. I order it everywhere that it is featured on the menu, and compare them all. However, it was one of my dads specialities, so I am always disappointed when it doesn't live up to expectations. My main complaints are usually that it is lacking in flavour, or that it is too mustardy or too creamy and sickly. But I always finish it, so it can't be too bad right? Maybe I just like a good moan, I am british afterall.
When doing the dreaded food shop recently I noticed that Colmans had a 2 for 1 offer on their packet mixes and we needed a chilli one anyway. After a little convincing off MT, we picked up this stroganoff one and decided to give it a try.
I decided to cook this with homemade (Slimming World) chips, as I personally prefer stroganoff with chips rather than rice as is recommended. Then I chopped everything and followed the instructions on the back of the packed.
One thing I did notice was that the sauce was a little thin for my liking. I kept hoping that it would thicken up but it didn't. This could have been partly my fault, as I was rushed due to my rubbish timings with the chips.
I do have to really praise Colmans for how easy the recipe was to follow. I am not a confident cook at all but I managed to pull this off. I was surprised at how much flavour the packet had in, and how much it produced. It could have easily fed four people (or two greedy people like me and MT hehe). Also, we used a cheaper frying steak as apposed to the sirloin steak I would expect in a stroganoff and I could hardly tell the sauce masked it so well.
This was the final product..
Not bad at all. I definitely would try this again, but I would cook the sauce out for a little longer to make it thicker. And I wouldn't have such a big portion.
Thumbs up Colmans!
